Asthi Visarjan at Triveni Sangam Prayagraj: Importance, Vidhi & Cost

The loss of a loved one is a deeply emotional experience, and Hindu tradition provides a structured path for the soul's journey after death. One of the most sacred duties of a family is Asthi Visarjan—the immersion of ashes in holy waters.

While Asthi Visarjan can be performed in several holy rivers across India, Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj holds an unparalleled spiritual significance. The Sangam is the exact meeting point of three sacred rivers: the holy Ganga, the Yamuna, and the invisible, mythical Saraswati. According to the Garuda Purana, immersing mortal remains in this confluence washes away the earthly sins of the departed and grants them Moksha (liberation from the cycle of rebirth).

The Asthi Visarjan Vidhi (process) begins as soon as the family reaches the designated Ghat in Prayagraj. An experienced Tirth Purohit guides the family through the purification rituals. A Sankalp is taken in the name and Gotra of the deceased. Following this, the ashes, mixed with holy Ganga Jal and milk, are taken on a boat to the exact middle of the river—the Sangam.

Vedic mantras are chanted to appease Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, asking for the soul's safe passage to Pitra Loka. The family then offers the Asthi Kalash to the river, followed by Deep Daan and Shanti Path.

The cost of Asthi Visarjan in Prayagraj typically starts at around ₹2100. This nominal fee covers the essential Tirth Purohit Seva, the Asthi Kalash Pujan Samagri, and the boat arrangement required for the Sangam immersion. Families can pre-book these services to avoid confusion or haggling at the Ghat, ensuring a peaceful and uninterrupted final farewell for their loved ones.
